Our Travel Agent, Victoria, recently jetted off for her first taste of the United States of America. Victoria spent two weeks travelling from the vibrant San Francisco to the alluring hills, shopping and nightlife of Los Angeles.
The team at Jayes Travel is passionate about seeing the world. Designing our client’s perfect holidays is something we love, but it can also add many destinations to our travel bucket list.
Travelling through terrain that continually keeps you guessing (you can see sandy desserts and serene mountain peaks in just a day), Victoria experienced local culture, spectacular sites and adventure on tour with Trek America. Starting her holiday by getting her bearings in the coastal San Francisco (and of course driving across the Golden Gate Bridge to the beautiful Sausalito), the Western Wonder Trip offered a unique way for Victoria to see America.
A self-confessed “sucker for natural wonders and beautiful landscapes”, Victoria says Yosemite National Park and the Grand Canyon helicopter ride were her trip highlights.
“There were so many different trails for different fitness levels and some stunning lakes, but be careful of bears!” Victoria warned.
She and the rest of the group spent the first night in the national park camping, an experience Victoria highly recommends to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the great outdoors fully.
Even though she only got to spend two days there, Victoria admitted: “it’s safe to say it was my favourite spot.”
A trip to Las Vegas broke up the outdoorsy elements of the trip and featured nights out, evenings watching the casino fountain shows, and trying to win on the craps tables.
Nearby to Las Vegas is one of the most sought-after natural landmarks across the world – the Grand Canyon. “The first glimpses of the Grand Canyon were unreal – sitting out on the ledge looking at the vast size of this landmark was so incredibly amazing,” she said. The group enjoyed pizza for dinner while admiring the sunset over the canyon, before heading up in a helicopter the next morning to see the site from the sky.
“Make sure you see the Grand Canyon from the air – it was absolutely incredible,” Victoria said.
“It’s certainly open to families and other travel groups, but the fast pace of the Trek America tour can be exhausting,” she said. “It’s very different from a Contiki tour, but I think younger travellers would love the experience and independence it provides. It’s also much more close-knit than other popular youth tours; there’s usually a maximum of 13 people per trip,” Victoria concluded.
Victoria is very excited for her next trip and can’t wait to put her new knowledge to good use.
